Apple's Oct 22nd Event Summary: iPads, MacBooks, Apps, and More!

Following Apple's event which announced the new iPhone models in September, Apple hosted another event on October 22nd that revealed ipads stacked on topmore products such as iPads, Macbooks, Mac Pro, and Apps.  This is the time year where Apple is introducing newer versions of their current devices, and even newer products.

iPad Air

This is not to be mistaken for an iPad 5, it's a completely new iPad model.  Similar to it's cousin the Macbook Air, it consists of the same features; slimmer and faster than the other iPads. 

It's 20% thinner than the 4th generation iPad and weighs one pound, which is 0.4 pounds less than the previous generation.  It also comes equipped with a 64-bit A7 chip, which was first introduced with the iPhone 5S and a M7 co-processor.  The battery life is at 10-hours.  Also, 802.11n WiFi with MIMO support, expanded LTE networks, better FaceTime and iSight cameras.  There's also dual mics.

Both WiFi and LTE models will ship on November 1st with two color options silver/white and space gray/black.  

$499 for 16GB WiFi and $629 for 16 WiFi plus cellular.

iPad Mini

An updgraded generation of the iPad mini will now come with a high-resolution Retina display. It is going from 1024 x 768 pixels to 2048 x 1536 pixels. It will also get the 64-bit A7 processor which should make the device up to 4 times faster, as well as the M7 motion co-processor.  WiFi and camera improvements.

Apple says this will be available in the same two color options late November.  

WiFi models $399 for 16GB, $499 for 32Gb, $599 for 64GB and $699 for 128GB

Cellular models $529 for 16GB, $629 for 32Gb, $749 for 64GB and $829 for 128 GB.

Mac Pro 

Base configuration will include an Intel 3.7GHz Xeon E5 process, 12GB of RAM, 256 GB flash storage, and two AMD FirePro D300 GPUs for $2,999.

Another model will include 6-core 3.5GHz Xeon E5 processeor, 16GB of RAM, 256 GB PCle-based flash storage and two AMD FirePro D500 GPUs for $3,999.

This will ship in December.

Retina MacBook Pro

The $1,299 model is a 13-inch Retina MacBook that has a 2.4 GHz dual-core Core i5 processor with 4GB of RAM, Intel Iris Graphics, 128 GB flash storage.  It's 0.11 ounces lighter and 0.04 inches thinner than previous model. 

The $1,499 model comes with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB flash storage.

The $1,799 model has 2.6GHz dual-core Core i5 processory, 8GB of RAM and 512GB flash storage.

But, there's a new 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro that is $1,999.  It comes equipped with 2.0GHz quad-core Core i7 processor, 8GB of RAm, Iris Pro, and 256GB SSD.  There's also an available upgrade for $600 that allows you to have 2.3GBz quad-core Core i7, 16GB of RAM and 512 flash storage.

These are available Tuesday, October 29th.

OS X Mavericks

This gem is available in the Mac App Store, and for FREE.  Yes, free, for those who have OS X Snow Leopard or later. It runs on 2007 iMac and MacBook Pro or later and 2008 MacBook, MacBook Air, or Mac Pro or later, and 2009 Mac mini or later.

We were given a preview of this new operating system back in June, but it's finally here and avaialble for download.

iOS and Mac Apps

Apple has revamped some of their apps.  The iWork apps are now available with new designs and new features.  iWork now has live collaboration with iCloud.  It is now avaialble from the iOS and Mac App Stores.

Updates to iLife, including iPhoto, iMovie, and Garageband.  They come with more speed, easier browsing, faster controls and a new drummer feature in Garageband.
